Ahead ACME custom molded ear plugs

And what exactly does that mean?

With the ACME earplugs from Ahead, you make a casting of your ear canals yourself. This casting then becomes your new earplugs that fit perfectly into your ears afterwards.

And it is not even difficult to do it yourself …

This is how you do it

When you buy your do-it-yourself earplugs, you get two small containers, each with its own material inside. When you mix these materials together it starts a process where the material slowly hardens.

Once you have kneaded the materials well together, divide them into two equal portions. One serving for each ear. Next, gently push / push each lump into your ear canals. When the material closes tightly and you have made a nice finish on the outside, just wait.

At this stage you can hear the sound of the material working. This is normal.

How do they dampen?

The ACME earplugs are not designed to be linearly attenuated. Their strength is a powerful attenuation (approx. 26dB), and so the absolutely sublime comfort that the molding gives you.

Accessories

A small cloth bag is included, in which you can keep your earplugs when you are not using them.

In addition, you can buy a smart little carrying cord which is screwed into the earplug itself. The small plastic screws on the cord are cleverly enough color-coded with red and blue so that you can easily tell the difference between right and left.

Can you make your own molded in-ears?

There are a number of customers who have written and asked if it is possible to make your own molded in-ears using Ahead's ACME earplugs.

And yes, it seems so.

There are at least two places you can look if you go with such thoughts.

The first place you can try to look is at the Australian earplug webshop Earjobs. They have made this blog post that shows how you can make a set of molded in-ears yourself using do-it-yourself molded earplugs (equivalent to ACME).
