Fancy a big 20" crash with a deep, dark voice and a soft feel under the stick? Then read on!
This Anatolian Baris 20" crash is fully hand-hammered B20 bronze, then lathed and polished, which gives it a brilliant finish. Just to be clear: it is the looks that are brilliant, not the sound.
Baris cymbals, the 19" and 20" in particular, have a reputation for being soft and thin, and this one lives up to it. It is as soft as they come, and the big Baris crashes can sometimes turn quite floppy – this one doesn't. It is still soft and comfortable to play.
The voice is enormously deep, with the tonality sitting a little at the low end. The one thing to keep in mind is that it sits lower in the mix against guitars, walls of sound and the like. But if you like a dark, deep-sounding cymbal, this is well worth checking out.
This is a crash you can use for a lot of things. It is especially good for rock and pop if you like big cymbals, and for rock and metal it is a great one to smash away on. And even though it is soft – and a full 20" – you can actually get some ride action out of it. A rather washy ride, admittedly, but it never boils over.
All in all, a lovely Baris and a crash that lives up to the series' reputation. Watch the video and hear the exact cymbal you'll be taking home.
