With the Canopus series, Anatolian introduces a cymbal line that stands out both visually and sonically. The series sits in a somewhat different tonal space compared to many traditional cymbals.
A distinctive design feature is the unlathed ring located about 6 cm in from the edge. In this area, the material has not been lathed down like the rest of the surface, leaving slightly more thickness in that section. The result is a cymbal that responds in a more controlled way and behaves a little differently when played.
The extra bronze in this ring also raises the pitch slightly compared to what you might expect at first glance. If you run a finger across the cymbal, you can clearly feel the change in surface where the ring sits.
The added mass in this area also gives the cymbal greater stability, allowing it to be used more actively as a ride without losing its function as a crash.
Musically, this is a crash cymbal with fairly broad applications. Ultimately, it’s the overall tonal character that determines where it fits best.
