Effect cymbals are for those who want to go beyond the ordinary. These aren’t your classic crashes – they’re the cymbals you add for extra character, texture, or just more colour in your playing.
Here you’ll find everything from trashy stacks and raw splash cymbals to perforated cymbals and specially designed add-ons. In short: the unexpected element in your soundscape.
An effect cymbal can be a subtle detail – or that one sound that suddenly becomes part of your signature.
It might be a china, a trash crash, a perforated cymbal, a cymbal stack – or something else entirely. What they all have in common is that they add new colors to your setup – and make playing even more fun.
Are you looking for:
… then you’ve come to the right place!
Effect cymbals haven’t always been part of the standard drum kit. While crash, ride, and hi-hats have held their place for decades, more experimental cymbals like trash crashes, stacks, and perforated models have only become truly popular in the last 20–30 years.
In the ’80s and ’90s, both drummers and cymbal makers started getting creative.
First came the classic splash cymbals, often used for quick accents and fills – and later stacks and perforated cymbals emerged. It was no longer enough for a cymbal to just sound “nice” – it had to have character.
Today, effect cymbals are pretty much part of the standard setup – at least for many. Especially in modern genres like prog, gospel, metal, and experimental pop, you’ll find stacks, trash crashes, and perforated cymbals in almost every rig. The sounds are shorter, sharper, more expressive – and drummers have more ways than ever to shape their sound.
