If you need to play low, but still wanna make articulated "ghost notes", then the Tips models from Flix are quite brilliant. 

If you, for instance, play with many subdivisions in your grooves, then they will easily disappear with regular rods/ fibre sticks. However, with the Tips model, you get the strikes raised exactly what's needed to hear them, as intended.

To play gospel drums in a church with a choir is an obvious example - since you are required to lower the sound.
