Anatolian Canopus 16" Crash

If you're after a crash with a bit of extra bite, read on!

This is a 16" crash from Anatolian's newer Canopus series – a line that looks distinctly different and sounds a little different too, compared to most traditional cymbals.

The Canopus series is easy to spot by its raw, unlathed band running all the way around the cymbal. The band adds a touch of extra mass right out near the edge, and you can actually feel it if you run a finger across the surface – the cymbal responds differently right there.

This particular example weighs 1016 grams and leans slightly towards the darker side tonally. The attack is strong and explodes nicely with real substance in the sound, but it decays fairly quickly again – far from a dead cymbal, but it gives you that initial "buff" right on the hit before fading a touch faster than you might expect.

The extra mass out by the band also gives a bit more stick definition and control than you'd normally expect from a crash – in fact, it works well as a small mini-ride if that's your thing. And it's actually right out by the band – even though it's closer to the edge – that you'll find the most control.
