Anatolian Canopus 19" Crash

This 19" crash from Anatolian’s Canopus series is a deep and soft crash cymbal with a fairly full feel under the stick.

It weighs 1634 grams, which probably puts it slightly on the heavier side for a 19" crash – at least in terms of feel. Not because it feels hard to play, because it does not. It is actually very pleasant and soft under the stick. But you can feel that there is a little more material to set in motion.

The Canopus series is recognised by the raw, unlathed belt running around the outer part of the cymbal. That adds a little extra mass where the diameter is at its widest, and it affects both the feel and the control of the cymbal.

The profile is fairly flat, and the elasticity feels a little on the tighter side. When you play it, you get a crash with a soft response and a deep tonality. It opens up nicely, but without running away completely.

The extra material towards the edge also means that the cymbal can be ridden to some degree, even though it is still very much a crash. It does not get that overly loose and uncontrolled wash that some thinner crashes can develop quickly when used as a ride.

The playing feel is perhaps a bit like the difference between a smaller and a larger crash: it is still soft and comfortable, but there is a little more mass and weight in the movement.

All in all, a really nice 19" crash for the drummer who wants a deep, soft and full crash with a bit of extra control – and with that special Canopus feel, where the cymbal can open up while still holding together.
