This 17" Session Crash from CymbalWorks’ Copenhagen series sits slightly on the heavier side and has a crisp, full sound with a relatively long sustain.
In terms of finish, the Copenhagen series is fairly traditional, but the cymbals also receive additional over-hammering. The small, pointed hammer marks can be seen particularly on the underside and help add a little extra character to the sound.
Overall, it is a really good all-round series – and also one of the popular series from CymbalWorks.
This particular cymbal is easy enough to get moving, while the weight gives it a relatively long and even sustain. The decay curve is fairly flat, so the sound does not simply peak and disappear immediately.
Tonally, it sits around the mid-range, but with a really nice crispness and a slightly darker, trashy character on top.
I can also easily imagine it blending with cymbals from the CymbalWorks Collectables series. It is not quite in the same territory, but there is just enough of that darker, trashier character for the two to work really well together.
All in all, a versatile 17" crash with good body, crispness and a long, even sustain – plus just enough trashy character to stop it sounding too clean.
